Assessment 3 Torus Tutorial

This shape i found to be the most confusing shape that we needed to make.
A torus is a three dimensional (3D) donut-shaped geometric shape.

One attempting to make a new shape or learn a new skill its always important to have a plan. This is the basic thinking that is needed.

1. How to create something efficiently in terms of amount of material needed and time needed. (Its important to set these variables straight aways as they will be your guide on your project)
2. Mark the sheet according to the shape your are trying to make. plan out where you want to stretch and where you want to shrink. any places your plan to manipulate should be marked.
3. Think about your work process and the end result. Metal on Metal never leaves for a good looking product at the end.
4. always ask for help or a second opinion. when working on a project for a long period of time it may be hard to stay focused on the important thinks. you may spend to much time on one thing mean you don't have time for another.

The Process:

Step 1: Gather your material and cut out to the size that you want to.

Step 2: Gather the necessary tools that you will need. when working on a project a lot of time can be lost by walking back and forth to try and find tools that you need.

Step 3. begin by planing the approach. in this case you want to make a reverse curve and so a template would generally be handy. Once the template is made hit into it to make the curve. but be sure that the piece is either clamped down or someone is holding it so that you do not lose the form of the shape.

Step 4: After creating the basic shape its important to review your work and see what needs to be down. from here you can see that there needs to be more depth in the piece the curve on the inside can be refined a little bit more. this is done by finding something that has a similar radius. Because what you use those as if its metal it could affect the finish of the product.

Step 5: Once you are happy with the shape and form its time to put it on the dolly and try and smooth it out. this is where you need to be careful as you could affect the shape of the object if you hit to hard. you need to have patience.
Step 6: Clean up your edges and make sure that you are happy with the final product.

Things to be aware of and how to avoid them.

This is what your project will look like after hitting the aluminium on to a metal surfaces or with a metal hammer. in order to combat that you can with hit on to a timber template or wrap your hammer in cloth.
If you need to shrink and object use the shrinker stretch as a last resort as it will with create marks which are very hard to get off or split your material.

REFLECTION
I choice the Torus as it provide an interesting view in terms of its form. I study Interior Architecture, and form is something that is always a constant topic with in this course. Completing this elective has increased my knowledge of how objects can be manipulated in order to create something beautiful and meaningful.

the images below show to spectrum of how form is an important fact in architecture.
